About the Canadian Visitor Visa

A Canadian Visitor Visa, also known as a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV), is an official document issued by the Canadian government that allows foreign nationals to enter Canada for temporary stays. It is typically valid for tourism, visiting family or friends, attending business meetings or conferences, or other short-term non-work activities.

Most visitor visas are multiple entry visas, allowing you to enter and exit Canada as many times as you want while the visa is valid. Single entry visas are only issued for specific reasons.

Create an IRCC secure account or sign in to your existing account at canada.ca. This is where you'll complete and submit your application.

Step 3: Complete the Application Form

Fill out form IMM 5257 online. Answer all questions accurately and completely. The form will generate a personalized document checklist based on your answers.

Step 4: Upload Supporting Documents

Scan and upload all required documents according to the specifications. Ensure all documents are clear, legible, and in the correct format (usually PDF or JPEG).

Step 5: Pay Application Fees

Pay the visa application fee (CAD $100) and biometric fee (CAD $85) online using a credit card or debit card. Keep your receipt.

Step 8: Wait for Processing

Track your application status online. Processing times vary by country. Additional documents or an interview may be requested.

Step 9: Receive Decision

If approved, you'll receive a passport request letter. Submit your passport to the VAC to have your visa stamped. If applying from within Canada for an extension, you'll receive an approval letter.

Once you receive your passport with the visa, you can travel to Canada. Bring all supporting documents with you to show the border officer if requested.
